Event Description

Boise Soul Food Festival
Rib Eating Contest

Eligibility: Contest is open to anyone 18 years or older. Valid ID must be brought to the competition site.

Contest Details: The contest is open to 100 applicants with an entry fee of $10.  There will be only one competition to be announced during the festival and will be limited to only 5 contestants and two alternates. Contestants will be chosen through a lottery system.  Except for an event cancelation, there are no refunds for entries.

CONTESTANTS MUST CHECK IN 1 HOUR BEFORE THE ABOVE START TIMES OR THEY WILL FORFEIT THEIR PLACE TO AN ALTERNATE COMPETITOR.

To Enter: Carefully read the Official Contest Rules for the Rib Challenge including the waiver of liability
provisions. There will be a $10 entry fee for each eligible application. Except for an event cancelation, there are no refunds for entries.   Entry deadline is July 14, 2024.
 
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
  • Contestants will compete against each other and the clock. The object is to eat as many Bar-B-Que Ribs, as possible within the allotted time: 3 minutes.
  • No alcoholic beverages may be consumed during the competition.
  • Contestants must not touch any ribs until the starting signal.
  • Contestants must stop eating at the ending signal, to be announced before beginning the contest.
  • Contestants will be given a 3 lb. tray of Ribs.
  • The winner (s) will be determined by the first to finish.
  • Contestants who suffer a reversal of fortune and/or urges contrary to swallowing will be disqualified (and possibly laughed at).
  • Eaters must hold down the meat for a period of two minutes after the contest.
  • The "Chipmunking Rule" will be in effect, which means that any meat placed in the contestants. mouth at the very end of the contest must be swallowed within 30 seconds.
  • In the event of a tie the winner will be determined by a one-minute "Rib-off".
Prizes:
  • 1st Place $100.
  • 2nd Place $50.
  • 3rd Place $25.
 
Acknowledgment Of Risks and Waiver of Liability

The contestant acknowledges that there are risks of personal injury, illness, and possible loss of life, and risks of damage to or loss of personal property, which may result from participating in this contest. Contestant, as a condition of entry agrees to indemnify and hold harmless The Boise Soul Food Festival, The Idaho Back Community Alliance and affiliated companies, their vendors, their advertising, promotion, and public relations agencies, co-sponsoring companies, and their affiliates and agencies, the City Boise, Boise Parks, and their affiliates and agencies from any claims and costs, including attorneys' fees, arising from or in connection with participation in this contest or the receipt or use of any prize, except where such claims or costs arising out of the indemnified party's gross negligence.

Final Authority: The Idaho Black Community Alliance/Boise Soul Food Festival has the final authority regarding all contest-related matters.  Rules and prizes are subject to change at the discretion of the Idaho Black Community Alliance/Boise Soul Food Festival.

Registration and Fees: Payment of fees may be made by check, money order or credit card. Payment must be received to guarantee your space in an event.
